Religious Spam 7 – Untimely Death

This one is a little long so I'm leaving out the normal "crazy" styling for this one. Enjoy!

DID YOU KNOW THESE FACTS?

I SURE DIDN'T TILL NOW

Death is certain but the Bible speaks about untimely death!

Make a personal reflection about this...

Very interesting, read until the end. It is written in the Bible (Galatians 6:7):

'Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sow, that shall he also reap.'

Here are some men and women who mocked God :

John Lennon (Singer):

Some years before, during his interview with an American magazine, he said:

'Christianity will end, it will disappear. I do not have to argue about that.... I am certain. Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple, today we are more famous than Him' (1966).

Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times. Read more

Jesus Rifles

More evidence of the strange marriage of Jesus and guns popped up recently when it was noted that Trijicon, maker of gun sights, has been placing biblical references on their sights. Trijicon has a $600 million+ contract to provide sights for the Marine Corps.

When valid complaints were raised about the inappropriateness of these little biblical messages the director of sales and marketing fires back stating that the complaints were raised by a group that is "not Christian", as if that has any bearing on the validity of the complaint.

Global Atheist’s Top 10 – Overpowered by Pat Robertson

Top 10 Featuring Pat Robertson

Pat "pact with the devil" Robertson seems to have hit a bit of a nerve. Typically his insensitive and inconsiderate comments cause a few people to speak out but usually that is the end of it. Now with social websites connecting people like never before comments that insult and inflame can spread fast and far. When Robertson said that the Haitians were responsible for their own state of condition the internet light up with righteous anger from the non-believers and believers alike.

I just took a look at the top 10 posts for the past 24 hours on my website Global Atheist. Aside from position #7 and #10 everything is about Pat Robertson. I haven't seen an event occur that caused this many articles on one subject get pushed to the top like this.

I doubt I have to remind anyone, but Pat Robertson is the one who blamed the attacks of September 11th on the ACLU, the destruction of New Orleans in Katrina on gays and lesbians, and now the earthquake in Haiti on a "pact with the devil." Rachel Maddow nails it on the head in the following video clip, "Pat Robertson is the the unintended consequence of the first amendment".

Stephen Baldwin and a Common Evolution Misunderstanding

If we evolved from apes, why were there still apes?

This ranks up there with the "it's only a theory" argument: pointless, baseless, and shows that the person spouting the question is completely ignorant of what they're attempting to debunk. Read more

YouTube-ing with Angie the Anti-Theist

Angie the Anti-Theist who runs a blog of the same name at http://angietheantitheist.blogspot.com/ has had a YouTube channel for a little over a month. Since then she's made 15 videos and gained 370+ subscribers.

You should definitely check out her three more popular videos: Atheism is NOT a Religion, Why an Atheist Talks About Religion, and What is growing up in a cult like? As you can imagine the comments are already flying on some of her videos, especially the Atheism is NOT a Religion video which has - at last check - 365 comments.

I've also added her YouTube channel to the Global Atheist feed readers.

Vatican Slams Avatar

Still from the movie Avatar

To the confusion of the upper echelon of the Catholic church there was no underage boys in a little movie you may not have heard of: Avatar. Seems they didn't understand that the hype around the films release and its unbelievable success.

All kidding aside, the Catholic church has shown just how out of touch with reality they are when they called the movie "dangerous" and, incredibly, "bland."

Bland!? Avatar? Really? I almost have to wonder if they saw this movie. Regardless of what criticisms I've seen of the movie, bland is not something I have heard anyone use. In fact those who hate the storyline itself still exclaim the amazing special effects in the film.

Their claim of "dangerous" shouldn't be too much of a surprise, coming from the group who also finds Harry Potter dangerous. The idea of being one with nature so harms the church that they must find every way to destroy the idea. The Vatican believes that this could lead people down a path of naturalistic spiritualism, a neo-pagan belief system.

Obviously the Catholic church knows just how gullible their flock is and is attempting to dissuade them from seeing the film.

Sarah Palin + Fox News = Here Comes the Crazy

Sarah Palin

Professional Quitter Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin has become the newest contributor to Fox News and she'll get her first taste of Fox fame tonight as she will be a commentator on The O'Reilly Factor. Fox News has billed it as a "sit down with Bill to take on America's top issues." The deal was announced yesterday.

I expect we'll here many crazy stories such as Death Panels™, aerial wolf hunting, the main-stream media, and how Ronald Regan was the shining beacon of something or another..., oh and how she can see Russia from Alaska. Yes, she said it - although she's been attempting to weasel her way out of that one recently.

No matter. I'm pretty sure in the end she'll give many of my favorite YouTube video makers a lot of material for comedy gold in the near future. I anticipate LiberalViewer flooding his Fox News Bias playlist with a ton of her content.

Check out The O'Reilly Factor tonight if you can swallow that much stupid on screen at once.

The Accuracy of Stated Energy Contents

"The Accuracy of Stated Energy Contents of Reduced-Energy, Commercially Prepared Foods" is the title of a paper posted in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association and is the nerdy science speak way of saying "the shit on the label isn't so."

The paper (link below) has discovered that the calorie count on labeled food and, more specifically, restaurant foods and frozen meals purchased from supermarkets, were off 8% to 18% on the plus side. To make matters worse some of these values do not include free side dishes. When these were included, calorie count could be off up to 245% on the plus side.

http://www.adajournal.org/article/S0002-8223(09)01679-4/abstract

These findings suggest that stated energy contents of reduced-energy meals obtained from restaurants and supermarkets are not consistently accurate, and in this study averaged more than measured values, especially when free side dishes were taken into account. If widespread, this phenomenon could hamper efforts to self-monitor energy intake to control weight, and could also reduce the potential benefit of recent policy initiatives to disseminate information on food energy content at the point of purchase.

Star Trek Online: Meh…

When Star Trek Online was first announced many years ago I had held out hope that it would be a fantastic voyage of which my childhood dreams were based on. As a kid playing pretend in my grandfather's garage or one of my sit down marathon watch fests, I have been a minor trekie for a good portion of my life.

But, having seen what has happened to it during its production, I just can't get myself excited about it. Some video of the game play can be seen below.

http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/14270158/star-trek-online/videos/startrekonline_trl_exploremontage_10510.html

This is not the fantastic adventure I was dreaming of. The graphics and animation are pretty weak, even by MMO standards. The main game play itself isn't even open world. Instead of seeing everyone playing on your server like other MMOs (think World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI, Everquest, EVE Online) you are only flying with those you've "grouped" with - that is except for an "over world" section called Sector Space. This is more akin to Phantasy Star Online where you would see everyone in a main hub, but in the actual game play elements you were just in a party.

There just isn't much here for me.
