When Star Trek Online was first announced many years ago I had held out hope that it would be a fantastic voyage of which my childhood dreams were based on. As a kid playing pretend in my grandfather's garage or one of my sit down marathon watch fests, I have been a minor trekie for a good portion of my life.

But, having seen what has happened to it during its production, I just can't get myself excited about it. Some video of the game play can be seen below.

http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/14270158/star-trek-online/videos/startrekonline_trl_exploremontage_10510.html

This is not the fantastic adventure I was dreaming of. The graphics and animation are pretty weak, even by MMO standards. The main game play itself isn't even open world. Instead of seeing everyone playing on your server like other MMOs (think World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI, Everquest, EVE Online) you are only flying with those you've "grouped" with - that is except for an "over world" section called Sector Space. This is more akin to Phantasy Star Online where you would see everyone in a main hub, but in the actual game play elements you were just in a party.

There just isn't much here for me.
